Love is in the Air: Monochromatic Magic with Vanessa

It is the month of love so today we are going to create one of my favorite types of layouts; monochromatic. To me the key to creating monochromatic magic is the use of multiple shades of a color, and the addition of texture and dimension. For my layout today we will be working with the Smitten collection. In the Smitten collection there is a wide variety of pink tones, so the choice of color was an easy one. I pulled several pattern papers and lots of embellishments that stayed in the pink color family.

To start my layout, I pulled out a piece of white cardstock and used a brayer to roll on some distress ink in worn lipstick. Next came some splatters in cotton candy from shimmers and my background was ready.

To mat my photo, I pulled out an assortment of pink patterned papers from the Smitten collection.  Roughing up the edges of the paper will give the layers texture and interest. For even more texture I brought in ribbon and twine to embellish the balloons I added above the photo.

With the main statement pieces on the page, I added additional embellishment clusters and the title being mindful to add dimension by popping up some items and tucking others in. In the clusters I added wood veneer and acrylic hearts to provide texture and interest to the paper elements. All the embellishing helps to keep the layout from feeling flat and repetitive.

Lastly to finish up our Monochromatic Magic layout we are going to add sequins for that perfect finishing touch and sparkle. I hope that this layout has inspired you to try your hand at creating a monochromatic layout.
