Double the Magic: Creating a 2-Page Spread with Midnight Apothecary

This 2-page layout is a great example of how the Midnight Apothecary collection can bring a story to life across a bigger canvas. The moody papers set the backdrop, and layering them side by side makes the spread feel cohesive but still full of variety. Each side works on its own, but together they tell a complete story.

On the left page, I played with clusters of embellishments, mixing stickers, journal spots, and patterned paper. It’s a good way to draw the eye without overwhelming the photos or journaling space. The vintage illustrations and gothic-inspired accents tie everything together while still leaving room to breathe.

The right page mirrors that same style but adds balance with larger photo areas. It’s simple but effective—big enough to hold favorite shots while still leaving room for decorative touches. Layering word strips and little icons keeps the spread playful and interactive without losing that moody vibe.

One of my favorite parts about working across two pages is being able to balance the details. A flower sprig tucked under a cluster, a journal bit peeking out from a photo, those little interactive pieces make looking at the layout feel engaging, moving your eye from corner to corner, and gives the spread texture and keeps it from feeling flat.

Altogether, this layout shows off what Midnight Apothecary does best: mixing dark, romantic papers with hand-drawn and vintage illustrations to create a spread that feels rich and detailed but still easy to work with.
