May Theme: Motherhood
I don’t know about your part of the world, but in the US, we celebrate mom in May, so this month’s theme is all about mom! Ali, Becky and Kaye are showing off three different layouts featuring 3 different aspects of motherhood and they’re all beautiful and inspiring!
Ali - Aflutter
Hi everyone! It is Ali here with you today sharing a Mother’s Day layout for the Traci Reed Design Team. I wanted to use the Aflutter collection because of all pretty colored patterned papers and I thought it was fitting to document this picture of me and my Mom.
I used an Allison Davis sketch and cut all the patterned papers into one inch squares and hand stitched all those little squares onto white cardstock. I used minimal embellishments because all the pretty papers have the spotlight on them!
Wishing everyone a Happy Mother's Day!
Becky - My Person
The theme this month is Mothers – obviously because it is Mother’s Day in the States in May although here in the UK we celebrated our mothers back in March! However I am happy to celebrate mothers at any time of the year and actually decided to celebrate my dear late mother-in-law using the wonderful My Person collection from Traci’s store. My mother-in-law was known for always wearing red so I concentrated on the reds within this collection and started by importing into Silhouette Studio one of the digital stamps which I enlarged to fill a 12x12 page.
Once I had it in position, I used my Foil Quill to sketch the stamp onto the paper – in real life this has a gorgeous sheen to it and I am in love with how it looks! This gave me the basis for my layout. I placed my photo to the right on top of some of the hearts but backed with three of the papers from the digital paper pack, focussing on the red and also the green as there is a lot of grass and trees in the photo. I inked all the edges of the papers in green ink to give a bit more texture.
Once I had the photo in place it was easy to see where I needed to place my journal card and then create my embellishments. Before placing the flowers, I used a leaf stamp to add some green leave just poking out from the clusters in a couple of places. Some of the flowers and leaves I raised on foam pads to give some dimension as I also did with the title which is from the digital kit.
The My Person collection has lots of lovely word strips too and I added three of these along with some of the hearts which I sized down to make into scattering elements. To finish the layout I added a puffy heart into each cluster and then some green and gold Nuvo drops. I hadn’t looked at the My Person collection before attempting this layout but I can thoroughly recommend it as it is so versatile.
Kaye - Aflutter
I know a lot of people will do stories about their mothers or even grandmothers for this project but when I seen it I knew right away I wanted to do a project about being a mother to my boys. When I was little I never really played with dolls some Barbie's but never dolls that was always my sister. I never dreamed about being a mother but when I became pregnant with my oldest everything changed and I want my boys to know that I would give the world to them. I used the Aflutter kit to help me build this page as I hadn’t had a ton of time to work with it.
I am ALWAYS obsessed with Traci’s water color files she includes in her digital kits they make your page look so much more put together without all the mess. Aflutter was definitely that perfect kit for a springy mother’s day spread and I am glad I was able to create with it again!
